Bike Park Wales

It's been non-stop busy in the shop this summer so even fewer posts than normal, and with the students arriving back in Swansea for a new term then its ramped up a gear yet again.

Anyway we still managed to squeeze in a jolly to Bike Park Wales which has now been open for just over a year so here are some photos from Bike Hub photographer of the day Bam, cheers Bam!

Just a small snack for Nick!

Well done to James Jones on his superb 2nd place at NASS BMX Dirt on the weekend. It's an amazing result for him and Team Animal.   All the results are HERE

And.........

…..Normal service has been resumed, and finally the Easter Bunny has been replaced!

So, what have we been up to? (obviously not writing blog posts).

We've been doing a lot of this….

(Please note this is not us!)
And in June we rode the Bristol Bikefest 12 hour race (teams of four although we only had three riders) and didn't come last (nearly but not quite).

Here we are after the race was (mercifully) over.

After last years 16 laps we were determined to make it past that mark and finally made it to 17 with 2 minutes to go. Punctures and fatigue did for us as I'm sure we could have made it to 18 laps. We will have to do 20 laps next year :)

We have a new team rider :)  Molly is a rescue dog and arrived at the beginning of April.
Not sure she'll be much use on a bike but she's a lot faster than we are

Racing'n'stuff

It's a bit late coming but on the 30th Of March we entered another race organised by Naked Racing .
Same as last time it was a mini downhill race at the Forest Of Dean(although much drier this time).
We had a larger group this time, along for the race were myself,Jamie, Stewart, Chris and his son Sam.
Due to a combination of a lack of sleep and poor preperation we didn't do so well but we still had a great time. All the results and photos are over on ROOTS AND RAIN , if your looking for us we are numbers 378,47,386,302 and 215.
We'll be trying our luck again at the summer DH series organised by MIJ RACING.

Tuesday Evening Ride

Tuesday evening rides are still a weekly event. We've been mostly been riding Kilvey with lights or Ramps in Llanelli.

This week though we booked a private session at Rampworld.  17 of us travelled up to Cardiff.  We had all manner of riders in attendance, one pro BMXer, skaters, roller bladers and some mountain bikers.

James Jones (ANIMAL / IMPURITY BMX)

Not sure what Nick was trying to do but it didn't end with a safe landing

Chris French showing the kids how its done :)

Julian showing the bowl who's boss

Thanks to Chris French for taking the photos (and showing his impressive skating)
It's a superb facility. Get over there and have a go.

Night Riding, Racing and Falling Off

We finally had our first night ride of 2014 tonight.  What with other riding we haven't really been out after dark.

Kilvey was surprisingly dry(ish) and all the trails are clear of fallen trees (after some sterling work by Julian to clear them over the weekend).  No pictures, but it was a great ride.

The falling off was at Ramps in Llanelli (always remember wet tyres on wood are not a good idea) two weeks before we were due to race at the Mini DH in the Forest of Dean on the 26th of January.  Although shoulder and ribs were hurting I still went for our first race with mate Jamie.  Jamie was in Seniors (he's only 26) whilst I was in Veterans (over 40's).

After two runs the fastest one counted, I finished 14th (out of 30 competitors) in the Vets category despite a crash on my second run, Jamie finished 61rd (out of 93) in a very competitive senior class.

There's loads of different types of racing, from BMX to Cyclocross and everything in between, have a look on the British Cycling Website for dates and more details.

Latest Custom Build

Using a carbon Scott Ransom frame with Fox DHX5.0 Air rear shock, X-Fusion Vengeance Coil forks, bars, stem and seatpost from PRO, with a mostly SLX groupset and some Hope Mono M4 brakes.  It's a custom build using new and used components.

Its first outing was the Christmas ride at The Forest Of Dean  (CLICK HERE FOR POST)
I'm not sure it deserved being piloted by a reindeer for its first go but beggars can't be choosers.
